Reflection
The essays we wrote this semester were different and very challenging for me. Every paper had some kind of research part to it. Research papers are the hardest for me to write because a lot goes into those papers. Finding credible sources and putting quotes in my papers were the most challenging for me. Even though they were challenging I'm glad we were able to write these papers this semester. They have helped me grow as a writer and my skills definetly improved.
Out of all the essays I have written this semester I am the most proud of my social experiment research paper. A lot of work was put into the paper and the experiment it self. I had never written an experiment research paper in an english paper before this class so it was something different for me. In my science classes when I wrote a research paper not much went into it but for english the paper had to be developed a lot. I had always written my papers without sections but for this paper there were many sections. These sections included an abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion. This made it easier and harder for me to write the paper because there were sections. Easier because I could sort out the different information to put in the section and harder because I wasn't sure of what exactly went into the sections.
Even though this essay was the easiest for me to write this semester it was also the one I learned the most from. From the experiment I obtained a lot of information for the results and discussion section. I had never had too much information for a paper before and it was hard to figure out what to keep in the paper and what to take out. By reading the example essays in our text books I was able to see what was the most important information for the essay. After many drafts and peer edits of my paper I was finally able to come up with a good length for my paper. I learned that more information doesn't make it a better paper. A lot of information could be repeated which unnecessary for the essay. Sometimes less is more.
There were a few challenges when it came to writing the paper and the other parts of the assignment. This was the only paper where we had group. It was different for me because I had never done a group paper for english before. I was use to doing things on my own time so it was difficult to have everything planned for the paper at certain points. By working as a group I was able to get their ideas and think of things to put into the paper. It was nice to hear other people's opinions and not just mine. Since this essay required more parts besides the actual essay it was good that we worked as a group for the assignment.
Overall this semester was the most difficult for me. Writing new types of essays challenged me and made me become a better writer. I liked how the essays progressively got harder as the semester went on because we were able to bring our writing to the next level.
